In the most recent discussions of the design for this monument, it was expressed by the Marine Raider Association that they would like to see a modern MARSOC in contemporary gear and uniform as a part of this monument.
Early on the discussion circled around modern MARSOC warriors and historical warriors. It was decided that the contemporary warrior would be saluting the historical warriors. The historical warriors we view as the grandfathers of the present day MARSOC.
Standing in Reverence
The proposed solution — still currently in discussion with the Marine Raider Association — is to place a life-sized statue of a modern Marine Raider outside of the scene. Instead of being prepared for battle, this contemporary warrior is recalling the history and memory of fellow historic soldiers and is saluting their accomplishments.
This would be life-sized statue. It would be placed around 15-feet from the larger monument, allowing visitors to travel between the modern soldier and the atoll.
A Solider and his dog
Standing at attention next to his handler is a Marine Raider dog. These war dogs played a vital role in the mission of the Marine Raiders, and very much still do today.
